佛身上的異相之一，表示吉祥無比。印度傳說以為是有德者的標幟。在梵語佛經中本非字，唯在中國皆收入字書中。卍字之形諸書亦不統一，也作「卐」。《龍龕手鑑·雜部》：「卐，音万。是如來身有吉祥文也。」
