管理一個縣的行政事務的官員。我國秦漢以後,管理萬戶以上的縣稱爲縣令,萬戶以下稱縣長,唐代縣分三等,不再有令長之分,宋以後臨時由京官管理縣政,叫着知某某縣事,明清改稱知縣英文 the head of a county
