古代以干支紀日或紀年。甲為十干之首，子為十二支之首，干支次第相配，可配成甲子、乙丑、丙寅……癸亥共六十種，統稱為「甲子」。亦作為一週紀的名稱，如用以 紀年，則一週紀六十年稱為「一甲子」。
